MacGyver Mom- I guess!?!?!?

You may need to use your imagination so you can visualize this happening.  The following account is a true story! =)

While sweeping off the back porch this evening, I paused to scan the yard just to make sure my munchkins were behaving themselves.  Mind you I had just spoken to both of them only minutes before focusing on the task at hand.  My visual computed just enough information for me to realize the smaller of my two was missing.  Eli relayed that Monica had stepped inside. I turned to open the door and tell her to come back outside. However, to my utter dismay I realized the door had been LOCKED!!!!!!!!  Eli confessed he did it.  Steven was gone at the time and the only person inside the house was my 20 month old. All the cell phones were inside as well. YIKES!!

Choosing not to panic, I dashed toward the front of the house. Upon arriving at the gate of our 7 foot privacy fence I realized my second problem.  Our gate only opens from the front yard.  (We did this to keep our kids from escaping to the street.) Soooooooo what did this terror stricken yet outwardly calm five foot five inch mommy do??  Can you guess?  Yep that’s right- barefooted I climbed up and over the fence dropping to the ground on the other side. It was quite gracefully done if I don’t say so myself!!  Eli was on my tail saying, “Mommy I want up there too.” — that boy!!

Well by the time I got to the front door Monica was standing at the window. At this point, problem number three came to my attention.  The front door was locked!!!  She looked a bit distressed so I tried to play peek-a-boo with her a moment to keep her calm.  Waving ‘bye-bye’ playfully to her one last time, I dashed back around to the back of the house.  I was able to open the gate and walk through this time….

Thankfully God brought to mind that we had opened our bedroom window a few nights ago to enjoy the cool night air.  I had to pry out the screen with my fingers. (we might have to get a new one now… oops!)  PRAISE JESUS the window was still unlocked!  I crawled through, onto the bed, and made it to Monica before she really knew what had happened.

Whew it was exciting, allthough i’m not quite sure what the neighbors think of me now….. =)  Oh the skills required to be a mommy!!!

Oh dear! That’s one of my “fears!” You see, my laundry room is outside, attached to our carport. I go out through the kitchen door, and am always afraid that I’m accidentally going to lock myself out, with the boys inside! Yikes! And then have to beg a neighbor to use their phone. Lol! So glad this worked out safely for you!

Oh, and I think when I was little somehow my mom ended up locked out while I was inside… Of course, I don’t remember…
