Getting in the Way

It was neat to see God bring this excerpt to my attention right in the middle of my “thinking.” It’s from Beth Moore’s Things Pondered . pg.91

For Today’s frustrated Christian, trying to do all she can do (rather than be all she can be), here’s Biblical permission to resign a few activities–

“whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. ” 1 Cor. 10:31

Let’s face it . None of us can do a thousand things to the glory of God. And in our vain attempt we stand the risk of forfeiting a precious thing– EXCELLENCE. Oh, that we might discern the will of God, surrender to His calling, resign the masses of activities, and sell out to do a few things well. What a legacy that would be for our children.

‘and this I pray… that ye may approve things that are excellent.’”phil. 1:9,10

Okay so that’s my lesson for me. God’s reminder to be still, strive for excellence, but don’t strive to be excellent in the things He HASN’T given me to accomplish.

Mushyness Ahead–

I’ve decided to try and conquer the neglected photos from the past 5 years. Organizing and filing memories from that many years is quite a job, but I know if I keep putting it off the pile is only going to grow bigger. I must confess my rummaging has brought back a TON of memories. Read the rest of this entry »

Time on the Bench

While out for our anniversary Saturday, we swung by the mall for a few minutes. Steven was looking for something and I was shopped out!!! (I would make a big deal out of the fact that Steven shopped longer than me but the real truth is my feet were hurting in my new shoes.) Plopping down on a bench, I enjoyed some quality “people watching.” It had been a long time since I’d done that. Without my kidos with me, I was still enough to really ‘watch’ the crowd pass by. 5 Year Anniversary!

Soooooo I’ve been carrying around wedding pics to scan. I wanted to post them on the blog BUT I don’t think it’s going to happen. Sorry… We had a great day together! Here’s a couple of picks the baby sitter took before we left.

getting back in the swing of things-

I don’t have anything exciting to share today. We’ve just slowly been getting back in the swing of things. Piano lessons started up again. This is the first year since we’ve moved here that I’ve had a waiting list. Part of me hates it that I can’t take everyone and yet at the same time I love it because my schedule is now solid and dependable. Read the rest of this entry »

handy little summer nothings–

I’m a HUGE fan of knowing tidbits that make life go a bit more smoothly. I’ve recently learned two that I’d thought out share.

1. To get rid of the “tang” that generally accompanies powdered lemonade add 1 packet of sweet n’ low to a 2 quart pitcher. It doesn’t alter the flavor just neutralizes the tang. Very Cool!!

2. Never fail JUICY grilled corn? Whether you’re grilling the cobs in their shucks or wrapping them in foil add an ice cube to each ear and then wrap back up tight. It makes a world of difference!!

Monica last summer nibbling!

Sooooooooooo what little nothings do you guys have up your sleeve out there?? I’m all up for the tips!

The weird thing is I have a major head cold.  Humidifier, cold meds, and everything?!?!  What’s the deal with that?

Sure hope wherever you are reading from is cooler than here.

Good Start–

Monica was awake at 6:30 today. This is unusual for her. Normally she sleeps until 8:30 or 9:00am. Yes mommies out there, I know that’s FABULOUS sleeping habits!! However this morning her early rising made me a bit sad. It wasn’t because I was missing sleep but because I had set my alarm in hopes I could get up before the kids. Read the rest of this entry »
