One little, two little, three little indian…

Some of you know that we lived in Jay, Oklahoma for 9 months of our lives (I’ve got some intriguing stories from our time there). The population of that town is over 75% American Indian. One of the GREAT recipes I took from there is called Indian Tacos. They are so easy to make for hundreds of people for maybe a fund raiser or just for two. It’s a yummy summer dish!! Here’s how (I’ll give directions for 2-4 people):

Prepare all the taco toppings you normally would consider for a Mexican night- Lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, olives, salsa, ect..

Next -Brown 1 lb. hamburger meat. Add taco seasoning as directed. Instead of preparing refried beans add a can of drained black or kidney beans to your browned meat. Let simmer.

Confession

Look at the great mommy I was last night!!! We rearranged my bedroom for a camp out…. or at least that’s what you can believe for a few seconds-

Actually what was really going on was Steven was out of town. I get completely unnerved 70% of the time when he’s not home (which of course is not good considering he’ll be gone almost a month this summer!!) Sooooo when I’m nervous I watch the USA channel until I get sleepy, ya know Monk, Psych, and such. Then I generally move the kidos to my room.

However, my kids are getting bigger sooooooo……. Read the rest of this entry »

Grandma and Eli again….

After their baths today Eli and Monica started playing. I don’t know what possesses him to do it but Eli was calling her “Grandma” again and strolling her around in her “wheelchair.” Is he a future nursing home director or what?? (sorry the quality is a bit blurry)

— notice the passy she’s holding. We’ve been trying to only let her have it at bedtime. Eli got it out of her bed for her. Awwww isn’t he nice =)

Resisting or Embracing?!?!

“No not that, not me, not this!!!”, squealed the lump of clay. “I want to be amazing and have people oooo and awww at the grandeur of my beauty and stature. I simply refuse to just be some old ugly terra-cotta!! I’m expecting paint, glaze, maybe a few jewels– You know the WORKS!! Listen here Potter, if you want to have any business with this here lump you better push and squeeze on your little spinning wheel thing to MY direct specifications!!”

—— can you imagine the audacity of that concept, what’s being created telling the Creator how to do it?? Yes, very audacious but I know I do it.

The whole clay vs. potter concept is such a rich reminder that life is a constant process of molding and shaping. I do not have the privilege of choosing my molding of trial or blessing.

I remember growing up I was taught there are 10 Unchangeables. Read the rest of this entry »

sweet things I’ve heard today…

“I love you, Mom…. I’m your darlin, right?,” that’s what I heard while I was putting Eli down for a nap. PRECIOUS!!!

“Draw nigh to me and I will Draw nigh to you.”(James 4:11) are the words the Holy Spirit keeps whispering in my heart. I think it’s to remind me that I have a choice in the matter. I must purpose my will, emotions, and thoughts to be surrendered in every aspect of my circumstances. Once I’m obedient, the Lord will reveal Himself.

“Obedience is doing what you’re told to do, When you’re told to do it, with a Happy Heart,” once again Eli. He quotes it in a little sing-songy voice ALL the time when I tell him to do something. I’ve heard it at least fifty times today.

Put that with what God’s been telling me and it makes for a DOUBLE sweet thing…

Not alot today, but these have been my little “sunshiny rays.”

outta shape!!!

While gearing up for summer I realized it was time again to find a new swimsuit.  That search I must say has been a depressing one.  After two babies NOTHING looked good!!  I mean just because the baby weight is gone does NOT mean everything is where it’s supposed to be.  UGH!!

Well instead of complaining about it forever I decided I’d try out the fitness center in our neighborhood.  They provide a free three day pass that includes childcare to check them out.  This morning was my first try–

I went to the cardio and abs class that’s taught by another youth pastor’s wife.  When I arrived I was a bit nervous.  Seriously, I’m not the most coordinated person in the world and I totally knew I’d be a spectacle. However, the first fifteen minutes went pretty well.  I was proud of myself, nothing too embarrassing happened.  What I did not expect was the sudden sensation of my eyes starting to spin after about 30 minutes of the workout.  I kept going…  Ten minutes later we got out the mats to do some ab stretches.  It was at the point I was to support someone else’s stretches “IT” hit!!!!!  Yes I had to RACE to the bathroom–  thankfully I hadn’t eaten much this morning so it wasn’t too violent. (sorry if that’s more graphic than you expected)

The verdict–  I may need to get more than a 3-day pass because I’m DEFINITELY OUT OF SHAPE!!!

Well I’m moving furniture again, all the carpet in our bedrooms and closets is getting re stretched in the morning. Last week it was the Living room and hall ways. With all of our bedrooms piled in the Living Room, a laundry mountain to tackle, four peoples to pack up (yes we’re headed out of town), and carpets to wash all by tomorrow afternoon I’m already exhausted!! CAFFINE IV please–

We’ll be gone a little bit! So I’ll catch up on the blog when I get back!

Happy Mother’s day to all the mommy’s out there!

Rainy Day

It’s a bit rainy today so I’ve been trying to keep the kidos busy. We made “bean art”- ya know glued every kind of dried bean you can imagine on construction paper and such. (Monica came back later and I caught her with a mouthful of beans off Eli’s picture- not good!)

Anyway, we’ve also sang, danced, told stories, and made something of which I don’t even know the name. I’ve posted pics of them below. After cooking and shaking them in cinnamon and sugar they taste like the cinnamon things at Taco Bell. You can find them in the produce section at Wal-mart. Pretty Good! The kids loved to watch them “pop” and shake the sugar bag!

Eli has enjoyed playing with “Grandma” as well. That’s what he’s decided to call Monica today– I know very weird! “Grandma” has been quite the climber. She’s very agile for her age. I’ve pulled her off the top of the dining room table twice and off the third shelf of the book shelf.

So there’s our rainy day! so far… ooooo wait I just caught Eli peeing in Rosco’s water bowl!!! no I’m not even joking– Why??? because Monica was occupying the toilet- How??? by playing in the water….. I’m getting off the computer- NOW!!! It’s gonna be a long day! I’ll let you know how we survived later.

I included a random pic of “Grandma” just for fun!
