more nakedness- sigh…

Well today has been a very productive and busy day. I’ve been painting again- finished the laundry room. So nice!

This time though the kids weren’t quite as good as they were before. Just as I finished up Monica decided to back up, lean against the fresh coat of paint, and wiggle her head back n’ forth. Yep, a head of nice soft toddler hair coated in Sherwin William’s san antonio sage super paint!!! Immediately I scooped up both of the kiddos and plopped them into the tub. Thankfully the paint came out fairly easily!!

However while they were in the tub a piano student’s parent rang the door bell. While we were visiting, Eli rounded the corner- still dripping- and enthusiastically greeted our guest. He of course had no towel. She laughed. I thought that was the end of the nakedness but nope- Monica had to join the crowd. I had two VERY HAPPY children wearing NOTHING at the front door. They didn’t want our guest to leave and asked her to come in and play!??!

I can’t quite grasp the feeling of unashamedness that they have!! Throw out the concept of modesty. How great would it be to not be worried about stretch marks and fat rolls to the degree you’re just as comfortable without clothes as you are with them!! Blows my mind!

Wonder if that really, really is the same kind of unashamed feeling that Adam and Eve had?? hmmmmm I’m pondering…

laundry–

I told Steven tonight I think we should measure laundry in pounds versus loads. I’m pretty sure I’m washing close to two elephants a week! Doesn’t that sound more impressive than 25 loads (or more)… Just a thought!

I’m gonna post a pic of one of our laundry mountains sometime soon–  you’ll have to compare your’s with mine.  totally not joking about with the terminology!

you know you live in Arkansas when…

When?? When you see this driving down the road on a Sunday afternoon…

We broke the speed limit a little bit to catch up and snatch the photo with Steven’s iphone. WHAT is it?? We think it’s an Elk that had a visit to the Taxidermist. I think Grandma’s quilt is keeping it’s hide nice and smooth.  … and YES it is dead!!

If you own this deceased creature and it was your favorite pet please forgive my post. I don’t mean to be degrading but it’s just the truth– THIS IS REDNECK!!!!!

Extra-ordinary Me

As you read my blog– I hope you will see I live a very ordinary life, filled with ordinary struggles, on a very ordinary plane just like everybody else. But I do want you to know there is something very extra ordinary about me and it is that God’s love has transformed my life and given me hope for a future! He is what sees through my selfish and sinful heart and loves me as His child. I found this beautiful clip that shows in an earthly way what Jesus has done for me…

I hope you know Him. He wants to know you – he sacrificed his Son so you could have eternal life.  if you ever wanted to talk about Him– I’d be so humbled to do that with you!

Spaghetti We Like

When Steven and I got married there were very few things he liked to eat. Taco Bell was pretty much a main source of nutrition for him. If I were a chemist I’m pretty sure I could deduce an addictive additive in their chicken quesadilla combo. Anyhow, spaghetti of all things was one thing he did NOT like until…. he had mine =). It’s such a simple dish but we do serve it for company occasionally, just because we think it’s really yummy. Here’s how I go about it:

Saute in a Tbsp of olive oil several crushed garlic cloves, an onion chopped finely, bell pepper diced, a fresh tomato chopped, and 7-8 fresh mushrooms. Do this just until the onions run clear. Don’t brown.

Next remove casings from 3-4 mild Italian sausage links and sear in pan. I don’t cook all the way through, just enough to avoid a boiling effect. I also leave the meat fairly chunky, probably 1 inch in diameter.

In large crock pot place prepared onion mixture, meat, one can of spaghetti sauce (I use wal-mart brand), and a dash of Italian seasonings. I also add one tbsp of grape jelly (read it in a magazine years ago) and a small dash of ground cayenne pepper. Just enough to give it zip! Let simmer in crock pot as long as you need too. We like either rotini or angel hair pasta with our sauce.

Add garlic bread, salad, and voila… Very Easy! Very Yummy!! Which makes a VERY good combination!!

If you want to try it come on over tonight– that’s what we’re having. We’d love to see you….

OUCH

I skipped the house duties today. I’ve got a mountain of laundry (again) and the desperate need to pick up. But instead of cleaning, I did some more fun things. The morning I spent going to BSF (www.bsfinternational.org) and running errands. The afternoon I spent making hairbows for a friends new baby girl– so exciting!

Well this evening after church I grabbed my cozy red chenille blanket and backed up to our leather recliner. I made ready for a big “plop” into the chair. My hopes for comfort and relaxation were dashed when my plop back fired into me shooting out of the chair due to a sharp burning sensation in my backside— I sat on a sewing needle!!! YIKES!!!! After pulling it out, by myself– Steven enjoyed a good laugh reenacting my expression and amazing dance I performed. So sweet… Maybe you’ll get a little laugh too. I’ll make sure I clean-up a bit better next time =)

Nakedness–

Well today I got to be the famous parent at the playground… BUT not in a good way. It was more of the raised eyebrow look of, “Where is THAT child’s mom?” kind of famous. We went with some friends to Carol Ann Cross Park with our yummy (very unhealthy) McDonalds for some great fun. After Eli had eaten all of one chicken nugget it was off to play. I was busy helping Monica with her fries, when my dear friend Amy told me to look at Eli. He was right in the middle of the playground in the process of pulling up his pants! Upon questioning, he just looked at me and explained very calmly he had to go to the bathroom. I guess in his mind life is as simple as, “When one must, one can.” Oh Well- I’m sure it’s not the first time a little boy has done some public watering…

Leaving Well

Yesterday Steven had the privilege of leading a group of teens on a storm clean up mission for the widows in our church.

He came home “smitten.” One of the widows he assured me I would fall in love with too because of her spunk. Her story reminded me a little bit of the movie the Notebook minus the Alzheimer’s. She shared that her love story began years ago, but she and her husband didn’t really begin to “live” until he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer when she was 60 years old. Upon receiving the grave diagnosis, they immediately scheduled a trip to Hawai “yah” (she has a bit of a southern drawl). They promised to themselves to go every year until they couldn’t go any more. She and her love went 23 years straight!!! That’s right she’s 83 and it will be the FIRST year she hasn’t gone to Hawaii in a LONG time!- so much for the death warning… Reflecting with a grin she confessed her husband wouldn’t let her take surfin’ lessons like she wanted!

Her husband passed away this year. However, she’s left with albums filled with memories of past suntans and luaus with her sweet heart. She’s still so in love with her one and only!! PRECIOUS!- As she was finishing her stories she remarked, “I don’t know if I’ll go to Hawai”yah” again but I’m sure hoping Heaven’s pretty close! =)

I think I could learn alot from her outlook– we’re hoping to make a trip to visit this marvelous lady soon.

Info overload– do you suffer?

Well I’m back…

I’ve had a good weekend and hope you guys have too. We’ve gotten shopping, laundry, and a few yummy meals cooked over the weekend. Other than two sweet trips to the local park we’ve not done too much exciting.

I did read an interesting article this weekend. I’ve been amazed at the power the Internet has for good!! God has blessed me with some sweet friendships around the world that I might never have been able to form had not this technological marvel of search engines entered my life. However, I think the expression “too much of a good thing” can be applied to this just as much as anything else. This article was a great warning sign that reached me just in time. let me share-

It’s been adapted from the January 2008 Reader’s Digest article “Don’t Be Overwhelmed by Technology —Get a Grip” by Ron Geraci

~ The average American worker receives 108 e-mails every day

~We now get more info in 72 hours than our parents likely received in a month

~Research show that the constant information stream is addictive and exhausting. Our brains become trained to constantly flit around the universe of messages and information, seeking brief “hits” of excitement

~The ability to multi-task is really a myth. Research shows that multitasking is just a series of constant micro-interruptions and stop-starts, all of which tend to reduce mental and motor performance

HOW TO FIGHT INFO OVERLOAD

1. Set limits: Try an e-mail signature that reads, “I answer e-mail at 10 a.m, 1 p.m., and 4 p.m. If you need a quicker response, please call.”

2. Stick to a schedule: Handle recreational web surfing and e-mail at set times. Dipping in and out is classic self-interruption.

3. Hit the “Off” button: Once a week , shut off your phone, computer, and electronic gadgets for the day. Read, worship, relax, and recharge.

I’m praying about any adjustments I need to make to my computer habits. I can totally see myself in a few of these points. Hopefully I’ll get a few of the unhealthy habits ironed out before I’m a goner!!

Eli was eating hulled sunflower seeds today. Upon requesting a refill he said, “More crumb flower seeds, please!”
